The reason the Sun comes into view once a year on the Equinox at the South Pole station is because of a separate rotation as a function of the orbital motion of the Earth -
http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.php?id=35400 So ingrained is the celestial sphere ideology that followers of that unfortunate calendar and clockwork solar system view put the Sun into circumpolar motion in an attempt to explain what only the intrinsic rotation of the planet can along with the orbital rotation responsible for polar daylight/darkness - http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/...ole-sunset.htm Nobody in their right mind could accept something as dismal as the perceived angle of the Sun's apparent descent in place of variations in latitudinal speeds which cause variations in twilight duration with the polar dawn/twilight arising from a separate rotation. I watched a wonderful movie last night about a man surviving on Mars on his own wits with NASA being the hero organization but I wish it would extend in reality to actual astronomy and the relationship between dynamical cause and terrestrial experiences and effects. |

There is nothing personal against the correspondent insofar as she is only following the celestial sphere doctrine that disrupted astronomy for a few centuries -
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/...ole-sunset.htm Considering it is noon along the entire length of the same longitude spanning both hemispheres, the idea of the Sun in circumpolar motion for both hemispheres would be funny if it were not the mainstay of the magnification community - http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap140620.html It is not my business to get inside the mentality of somebody who doesn't want to know no matter how ridiculous a Sun in circumpolar motion,an analemma Sun or any other awful insult heaped on astronomical observations are, only that the proper explanation for twilight duration at different latitudes is dependent on rotational speeds at those latitudes. The polar twilight/dawn observation on the Equinoxes is from a separate rotation. |
