So why are you wasting our time?

I think any lits o' kooks that excluded most of the famous names would
be rather pointless. How could there be a credible suit of coins
without the great conman Eddieeee, or of cups without the great drunk
Earl Curley?

Good point, but how do we[tinw] separate out the Legendary kooks
from the wanna-be's? Or do we just let the voting run its course?
Or do we post a disclaimer that only the truly kooky should be
re-nominated?

Or we could reserve the royalty cards for the legends, and leave
the rest open.

_Or_ we could create our own brand-new Tarot deck, including more suits,
if that suits us[tinu]. Say f'rex using cups, coins, pentacles, disks,
staves, wands,
swords and batons. Or various combinations of the nine suits litsed above.

What say you, sir?

Voting has always sorted the wheat from the chaff, on the whole. It's
no coincidence that Edmond "Dinosaurs were so big because gravity was
different in those days, and they were also descended from birds, and
btw Orion is a star" Wollmann has won 38 Kook Awards, while a
one-track upstart like George Hammond has won only one so far. IOW,
the people are always right. Bandiera rossa etc.

OTOH, "Vox populi, vox Dei" generally translates to "quick, we gotta
find someone to blame this on". Your point is taken, though. A simple
vote will do the job, so why over-complicate matters?

Maybe only active kooks - i.e. those who have posted to Usenet during
the month in which they're nominated - should be eligible, though it
would be a shame to disqualify Earl Curley. I'm sure he's still trying
to find an ISP in Hell that will accept him as a customer.

Or we could reserve the royalty cards for the legends, and leave
the rest open.

For example, require at least three kook awards before you can be
royalty? I'd prefer to leave it to the voters.

_Or_ we could create our own brand-new Tarot deck, including more suits,
if that suits us[tinu]. Say f'rex using cups, coins, pentacles, disks,
staves, wands,
swords and batons. Or various combinations of the nine suits litsed

I say that after more than a year the original Kook Kard Deck is still
incomplete, and that you and I are the only ones who have shown much
interest in this new idea. If it's to work we need more interest from
kookologists, and possibly a better supply of kooks. I suggest
postponing action for a few months.

Good enough. No point in rolling this out until the Deck is complete.
But don't forget "if you build it, they will come" will probably apply
to this project[tinp].

However, we could meanwhile proceed with the major arcana (as you call
them) or trumps (as I call them), since there probably aren't many
kookologists who would refuse an addition to their .sig that showed
they were held in high esteem by their peers.

Trumps/major arcana, either way works well enough for me.
I have a taste for fancy verbiage, is all.

If you and I [tinyai] are going to organise this, we probably ought to
disqualify ourselves from nominations, but reserve the titles "Dealer
of the AUK Tarot Deck" and "Shuffler of the AUK Tarot Deck" for
ourselves, in order to show where the real power lies. ;-)

Indeed. Muahahaha! But who gets which?

We'll just have to agree to disagree about the Power of Tarot

I always wondered what "TINPOT" meant.

I find it satisfying to point out to kooks who believe in the Mystical
Powers of Tarot [TANMPOT] that the Tarot deck was invented to play
card games with, a couple of centuries before it was used for
fortune-telling. That's why I always use the terminology appropriate
for the deck's original use.

I dunno about that, considering that when I have not respect
at all for the Power of Tarot[tinpot], I couldn't possibly have
any less respect for it ;-)

However, a Kook Tarot Deck would need as much Tarot mythology as
possible.

Good point.

Whoever posts the ballots is the Dealer, whoever doesn't is the
Shuffler. The senior post of Dealer is yours if you want it.

Not at all. As the FNVW for AUK, the senior ko0k-vote group,
the senior post of Dealer naturally falls within your venue.
(The fact that I am a lazy S.O.B. has no bearing on the matter

As you wish. Monitoring nominations all year round would be far too
much work, IMO, so I think we ought to make it an annual award, with
nominations and voting coinciding with teh Fr00tcake and Bag O'Coal.

Works for me, but we[tinw] will have to spread the news a bit.

Fill 2-3 slots per year? Or no-limit?

Besides, I can do a riffle - cascade shuffle (as taught by my late
great-uncle)
with some little dexterity. Oughta count for something.

I can do it better than you. I bet you can't send half the cards
flying all over the table almost every time. :-)
