Since 2007, spacewalkers have gone out to deal with coolant system issues six times. Good read by Alan Boyle over at http://www.nbcnews.com/science/real-life-gravity-drama-builds-over-spacewalks-fix-space-station-2D11783268 tinned as http://tinyurl.com/ammonwalk quote Repairs to the cooling system are among the "Big 14" maintenance tasks that NASA and its partners expected to face during space station operations. Since 2007, spacewalkers have gone out to deal with coolant system issues six times. In May, NASA mounted a spacewalk to replace a leaky coolant pump control box after just two days of planning. /quote Lot's of other good comments about the suits and the schedule. The schedule has changed for two reasons: the first space walk was able to get ahead, and a second suit has water problems (not the same water problem as in July). More at http://www.nbcnews.com/science/water-causes-fresh-problem-space-stations-spacewalkers-2D11792707 quote The first spacewalk to repair the International Space Station's cooling system went better than expected, but afterward, NASA encountered a new problem. After Saturday's five-hour, 28-minute outing to remove a faulty coolant pump module, astronaut Rick Mastracchio returned to the space station's Quest air lock and discovered something that wasn't supposed to be. Water had entered his spacesuit sublimator — a device that's designed to dissipate excess heat. quote /dps -- Maybe C282Y is simply one of the hangers-on, a groupie following a future guitar god of the human genome: an allele with undiscovered virtuosity, currently soloing in obscurity in Mom's garage. Quite the drama for Xmas this year.
Beats anything Hollywood could dream up. Damn cable system doesn't carry NASA TV. Will have to stream off computer when I can. I should go back to DirecTV. Dave |
