"A report appearing in the pro-regime China Times brags that China’s
launch of the Long March-3B rocket earlier this week is part of a long term plan to turn the moon into a Star Wars-style “death star” from which the PLA could launch missiles against any target on Earth. It all sounds like something straight out of The Onion, but upon checking the sources it appears that this is indeed what Communist Party officials have been discussing this week following China’s flagship launch of a lunar rover, which is Beijing’s first spacecraft to land on the surface of an extraterrestrial body." "Under the headline PLA dreams of turning moon into Death Star, says expert, the report cites “experts in China” who are wargaming how the moon, “Can be transformed into a deadly weapon. Like the Death Star in Star Wars, the moon could hypothetically be used as a military battle station and ballistic missiles could be launched against any military target on Earth.”" See: http://www.infowars.com/chinese-stat...tar-moon-base/ |

"Captain, please get me an ETA to first impact." "We estimate 2 days 36 minutes and 30 seconds to 1st impact over Washington DC." "Thank you Captain. Please bring us up to Defcon 1. Umm, no sir, you don't need to evacuate right away. You've got 2 days or so. I'd suggest you finish your lunch. In the meantime I've ordered us to DefCon 5. We can take out the Chinese in about 30 minutes and still have 2 days to figure out what to do with their incoming missiles. I think they might regret this little war." The W88 warhead is thermonuclear, quite compact, and capable of being dialed through a range of 10 kT to 435 kT. Twenty five 'freighter' flights to the moon could deliver 600 such warheads which would be hidden in regions on the lunar near side and controlled from a satellite at L1. Surveillance satellites in sunsynchronous polar orbit, in combination with communications satellites in geosynchronous equatorial orbit provides a significant offensive capability using technologies readily available to the Chinese. http://scientificsoup.files.wordpres...11/asimo-3.jpg http://www.techdigest.tv/asimo-ed209.jpg http://www.jp-petit.org/Presse/ARMES...ns/robots1.gif Consider an advanced remotely controlled drone like Asimo - that masses 36 kg - stored on the moon and launched toward Earth with a 120 kg launch system. Two hundred and fifty advanced 'freighter' flights to the moon each year permit the deployment of 600,000 such robots. Three million such robots are accumulated on the moon over five years. Larger than any military force on Earth. The same infrastructure that permits the command and control of 300 nuclear warheads, also permits the command and control of three million robot troops. Operations are semi-autonomous at present, with only 150,000 controllers, in dispersed underground bases within China, providing a significant force multiplier. The ability to project power without direct loss of human life, the ability to shift share and maintain a robot soldier on duty across many shifts, while those the robot opposes cannot shift duties, also provide qualitative as well as quantitative advantage. A 36 kg smart pebble array round would also be deployed and be capable of downing any aircraft, sinking any vessel, destroying any ground installation or vehicle, or killing any person in sight of such system. All from the relative safety of the lunar surface. A hypothetical Chinese attack against the USA would be initiated by the deployment of a lunar base and other satellites described, over a 7 year period. A reason would be found to justify the destruction of all major military installations of the United States using moon based 'clean' nukes with the follow up harassment of national military leadership and remote battle and combat groups with moon based KKVs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...military_bases http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...eaders_by_rank This would likely occur in a single massive strike that would leave the US powerless militarily. Following up immediately behind the initial salvo would be the deployment of 1.0 million robot troops and drones throughout the USA in combination with another 0.75 million robot troops at all former US military installations, while keeping a reserve of 1.25 million troops to provide a sustained global presence. This would followed up with a 'peace offensive' which would offer benefits to those who cooperated with the Chinese in America - including politicians and industrialists who would be left in power in a first strike. The olive branch would also be extended to other powers not impacted by the Chinese offensive. In this way a moon base can be used by the Chinese to gain rapid military dominance over the USA, and avoid what they would see as 'instability' resulting from a prolonged struggle for military power. |

So, I think it would be the US who would regret such a hasty decision. I believe given advanced stealth capabilities that such an attack would not be detected until the warheads hit the atmosphere, which would give a warning of only seconds. I also believe it fool-hardy for any aggressor to do anything less than mount an over-whelming first strike. So for these reasons I think the narrative you spin here is foolhardy again. Besides, a commander reporting a first strike would not under those circumstances decide the response. |

Besides, a commander reporting a first strike would not under those circumstances decide the response. There are also compelling reasons to believe that the weapons systems deployed initially in the 1950s and upgraded extensively in the 1980s, would likely not work as advertised. There were trillions mis-allocated and mis-spent. Some have estimated that if called upon, only 40% of the weapons would actually work, and only half of those would likely hit their intended target. In comparison, these antiquated US systems would be going up against weapon systems designed in the late 2010s and built and deployed in the early 2020s using best available technologies. An early and ill-conceived response by the US leadership at that time would likely prove more embarrassing than effective. If so, all the Chinese would have to do in the wake of such an 'offensive' is absorb the lack luster attack fully, strike their initial military targets and during their peace offensive show the horrific effect of the few US weapons that did make it from the USA, and point out how badly the US taxpayer got ripped off for two generations creating such crappy weapons, and have big show trials of US weapons manufacturers, including their management, boards and main stockholders, in combination of forgiveness of US debt and building up the US economy, to build public support in the US for 'freeing the USA from criminal elements that drove it into bankruptcy.' A narrative like that, whether true or not, would in the face of abject defeat build toward a lasting peace with China on top of world affairs thereafter. |
