Congrats to Orbital for what looks to be a clean launch!

Congrats to Orbital for what looks to be a clean launch! It sounds like Cygnus made it to orbit and is operating properly. Here's hoping that the rest of this ISS resupply (demonstration) mission goes well. Jeff Yes congrats on the launch. More nails to be bitten however... First docking attempt with ISS had to be aborted due to a navigation glitch. Earliest window for next attempt will be sometime tomorrow. http://www.aviationweek.com/Blogs.as...5-df2adac040a3 Dave |

An exact schedule will be determined following the successful completion of Soyuz operations. Its a busy period withe the new crew etc. From a news article I read today: http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2013/...o-iss-docking/ Soyuz TMA-10M docks with the ISS So far, so good. Later the article says: The new crewmembers will soon have a busy day to look forward to, as Orbital?s Cygnus spacecraft prepares for another attempt to rendezvous and berth with the ISS. This second attempt won't take place before Sunday, a delay in part due to the need to prioritize the arrival of Soyuz TMA-10. Mission Management Team (MMT) meetings will discuss the status of the schedule on Thursday and Friday morning, before making a final decision on the Sunday opportunity. So, we should hopefully find out soon when the next planned attempt at rendezvous and docking will be for Cygnus. Hmm, I seem to remember most of these cargo flights have had strange
guidance issues of one form or another close to the ISS, makes you wonder if it might be some kind of interference or general crud comming from the station which affects systems in unpredictable ways at times. I'm guessing the problem with Cygnus is a classic software integration problem. Most articles I read said that Cygnus was receiving data it did not expect from ISS. I have not read anything about "interference" in articles about the Cygnus software snafu. Jeff NasaSpaceFlight.com gave a pretty comprehensive explanation of the problem and the fix in an article with today's date. Next attempt for ISS this Sunday... http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2013/...nday-berthing/ Dave |

Shoddy, very shoddy.. Yes. Statements on Berthing of Orbital Cygnus Spacecraft to the International Space Station Press Release Source: NASA HQ Posted Sunday, September 29, 2013 http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewpr.html?pid=41686 From the above press release: NASA Administrator Charles Bolden: "Today, with the successful berthing of the Orbital Sciences Cygnus cargo module to the ISS..."
