The original assertion of Copernicus linking cause and effect between axial inclination and the seasons is somewhat below what is accurate for 21st century purposes -
"To this circle, which goes through the middle of the signs, and to its plane, the equator and the earth's axis must be understood to have a variable inclination. For if they stayed at a constant angle, and were affected exclusively by the motion of the center, no inequality of days and nights would be observed. On the contrary,it day or the of equal daylight and darkness, or summer or winter, or whatever the character of the season, it would remain identical and unchanged." Copernicus In many respects, this 500 year old assertion is played out in many classrooms by way of a teacher explaining that a planet with no tilt (0 degree inclination) would have no seasons much like Copernicus suggested however a slight shift in perspective changes the way an observer views the matter.A planet with 0 degree inclination would effectively experience equatorial conditions at all latitudes rather than the old 'no tilt/no seasons' perspective thereby allowing one end of a spectrum to emerge.A planet with 90 degree inclination would have a polar climate such as the planet Uranus with a roughly 82 degree inclination thereby bookending the climate spectrum between equatorial and polar. http://www.daviddarl...ngs_changes.jpg So,instead of axial 'tilting' towards and away from the Sun,a smoother explanation emerges by allowing inclination to determine planetary climate conditions balanced between polar and equatorial inputs while allowing seasonal changes to emerge from the separate surface turning motion to the central Sun even if that orbital turning motion is not rotation in a strict sense. This is not a game, the 'fire and brimstone' crowd that so diminished Christianity has moved to empirical circles where they now act out the same scaremongering with 'global warming' and get in the way of genuine pollution controls. It is already criminal incompetence to deny cause and effect between the daily rotational cycle and the daily temperature cycle as per the unfortunate people in the late 17th century who lost the plot with watches. Irrespective of the nuisances who show up here and drown out a decent discussion there would have to be people with some talent and a sense that all journeys to discovery can be chaotic sometimes and getting used to the new clmate principles is all that and more. |

Climate science hasn't even begun let alone understood. The most immediate experience of temperature fluctuations is the day/night cycle and you can't even get that one right for goodness sake insofar as assigning 4 phantom rotations to the Earth each 4 years you lose the link between daily rotation once each 24 hours. The next experience of temperature fluctuations is,of course, the annual cycle requiring simple acknowledgement that the Earth has two surface rotations to the central Sun,do you hear that Wormley - two surface rotations to the central Sun.The daily rotational cycle obscures the orbital component apart from the polar coordinate which act as a beacon or window into the orbital behavior. The orbital cycle prevents researchers from using a 'tilting' motion to the central Sun as the cause of the seasons thereby freeing up inclination as a means to determine planetary climate within a equatorial/polar spectrum. You want people to be scared but the truth is that were the wider population and especially students to have a proper astronomical education, appreciation for the terrestrial habitat would come as a matter of course.Instead you have these utterly stupid notions of human control of the complex climate system while having little understanding as to what go into basic climate principles. Anyone care to appreciate why the great storm on Jupiter has lasted for so long - try the 3 degree axial inclination which assigns an equatorial climate to that planet. There are tropical storms seasons in different hemispheres on the surface at given orbital points due to the fact that the Earth has a more pronounced polar input whereas Uranus has huge storms on its surface as one hemisphere emerges from a prolonged period of orbital darkness - http://science.nasa.gov/science-news.../ast29mar99_1/ These modelers who managed to rig the idea that long term weather turns into global climate are merely overgrown schoolkids out of their depth for all their outward show, you have just had rough outline of planetary climate determined for you by astronomical means and I suggest people adopt it quickly and work to expand it into something enjoyable. Authority by 'fire and brimstone' never worked apart from being a sort of tyranny and that is what your empirical cult has done, only inspiration and genuine promotion of astronomy can stabilize this awful mess created by the absence of astronomers. |

The fact is Wormley that the very organization involved in human rights is acting on information supplied by people who couldn't give a damn and make no mistake about it,nobody has a right to do what is being done in the name of astronomy and terrestrial sciences.
You come to this forum announcing a 'leap second' ,an utterly ignorant idea which assigns 1465 rotations to the Earth in 1461 days and you want people to listen to you when you scare them using climate !. That is where the real science is at Wormley, the devastation visited on astronomy by mathematicians unable to handle the principles where timekeeping and planetary dynamics meet.It is pure criminality that contemporaries are subject to the idea that there are 4 extra rotations than there are 1461 natural days covering 4 orbital circuits of the Earth - http://adsabs.harvard.edu/full/1904PA.....12..649B That is the real crisis and if it doesn't scare people to know that the same people who are not going toxic with 'global warming' are the same people who can't match up one rotation of the Earth with the normal temperature fluctuations in a 24 hour period. The idea is to raise the standard of astronomy so some stability can return to terrestrial sciences and determining climate in terms of a polar/equatorial spectrum is part of that journey that is open to all people who wish to earn the title of astronomer. |
