Doesn't that typify Hollywood in general and a lot of "news" organizations
today? Ever since the major broadcast networks folded their news operations
into their entertainment divisions the emphasis on colorful nutcases has been
their stock-in-trade.

I went to one and only one convention in... lessee... 1972, yeah, and don't
remember a whole lot of freaks. I remember they were talking about the movie
deal then, a full 8 years before it actually got made. But my biggest thrill
was when I ran into Isaac Asimov in the hallway outside the main ballroom and
ended up talking to him for about half an hour. Got his autograph which I still
have. That was so cool.
