That's not right. They've tied Vulcan mind melding into homosexuality?

No, they didn't. They used T'Pol's disease as an allegory to AIDS and AIDS
related discrimination. Homosexuality was not mentioned.

Because of that you missed on the whole Dominion War series of story arcs.
You fool.

My wife really got into DS9 more than I did. I hear plenty of gripes about
Enterprise, but I think the writing has gotten better. Plus, it's the only
new Trek out there.

To be honest, DS9 had some of the gutsiest stories of any Trek. Enterprise
is a mixed bag, but it is a much improved step up from the crap that was
Voyager.

It was a thinly-disguised analog to people with disabilities here, today, on
earth, replete with a huge "message". I've forced myself to purge some of the
details from memory, but it was sickening. She didn't have a "handicap" per se,
but she sure acted like it and people treated her like she had one. It was
awful. I didn't watch DS9 after that. I tried to get into Enterprise. I even
thought it was pretty good the first season. For some reason I didn't watch
season 2+.

If you want to replace that memory with something rather better on the same
subject you could do worse than "Beautiful Life" which is a Japanese drama
series that is much less sentimental than you might guess from the title.

For those in the know, and with broadband, an English fansubbed version is
available.

....Actually, what's been needed for a long time is a Trek novel that
explains how Miri's World (*), Omega 4, and Magna Roma all came about
from some oddball experiment by some alien race in which they
temporally recreated Earth and tweak history to see what would happen.
During the investigation, they discover yet another Earth, only to
find that it's late 1946, the Nazis are about to win, and Edith Keeler
is still alive.

You quit watching DS9 just because of that ONE episode!? Isn't that just
atiny bit over-reactionary? Did you stop watching TOS because of silly
episodes like "Miri", and "The Omega Glory"?

....Actually, "The Omega Glory" isn't *that* bad of an episode when you
strip out the patriotic elements (*). On the other hand, when you do,
you wind up with "Star Trek: Insurrection".

(*) Then again, I *loved* the patriotic elements. Go figure.

As today is the season premiere for Star Trek: Enterprise, and I'll confess
I am a trekkie, the theme song and opening credits keep coming to mind:

Totally off your topic, I was aghast to turn on the Enterprise season
premiere and find that the music track behind the vocal on the opening
theme has been changed, from a rock/folk ballad style to a country &
western style. Twangy honky-tonk guitars and all.

....What sucks is that the pre-first season promos had a song that
would have worked perfectly - The Crossing's "Wherever You Will Go".
In fact, it was the front runner before Berman started masturbating to
his Rod Stuart collection and found Diane Warren's dreadful dirge.
When it was passed over, the producers of "Smallville" grabbed up the
song and quickly dubbed it into one of the early episodes as almost a
stab at Berman's stupidity.

Makes me want to puke, personally.

....And the bad part about this is that the more people bitch, the more
Berman will remain steadfast about keeping the damned song. He's
actually berated fans who've complained about the song at cons, and
told them to either grin and bear it, or turn the volume down because
the song will remain as long as he's running the show.

With a dickwad attitude like that, I hope he gets raped *and* eaten by
a gigantic carnivorous tribble...

....Ironically, the best episode - IMHO - of that whole Dominion War
was the one where Rom becomes Grand Nagus :-)
