Default macholz on film

I have seen people post attachments here. Why doesn't my OE do it?
My mail server doesn't seem to let me post attachments on SAA. How
come others can?

Because newsgroups are text-only. The underlying distribution
mechanisms were never designed for attachments.

There are better ways to disseminate pictures. Please use them.

you still didn't answer my question. Why can some post attachments here and
others not?

Never tried, but I suspect my ISP would filter it. When people post
images to non-binary ngs, I don't see them because my ISP filters them out.

The people who might post attachments here shouldn't be doing it, this is
a text only newsgroup. Those who do it are breaking net protocol. There
are binary groups to post images or attachments to.

A long time ago, long before you had heard of the internet and
newsgroups, people agreed that binary postings (which tend to be large)
would be accepted only in the alt.binaries hierarchy of newsgroups.
This would give systems the option of accepting or rejecting such
postings, depending on their own individual circumstances (network
bandwidth, disk space, etc.), while receiving the newsgroups they
wanted.

News servers that conform to this gentleperson's agreement will discard
binary postings outside of alt.binaries. Similarly, news readers that
are correctly written will refuse to post binaries outside of
alt.binaries. However, some news readers are written (and used) by
buttheads who don't understand basic netiquette.

Post pictures in sci.astro.amateur all you like. I won't see them. Lots
of people won't. If you want your pictures seen, use other methods.

not true

There are better ways to disseminate pictures. Please use them.

please make an explicit suggestion.

OE lets me post with attachments just fine. Pictures should go to alt.binaries.pictures.astro.

Thanks. Thats the reason. I don't want to buy Forte agent and the trial
version does not allow this either.

I'm assuming you meant news server, not mail server, and if it won't let
you post binary attachments to this newsgroup, then bravo! to your news
system administrator. This is a text-only newsgroup and binaries should
not be posted here.

If you want to post a binary image, post it to
"alt.binaries.pictures.astro", or put it on a Web site.

You can post a pointer to it in a message to this newsgroup.
