Default Dobsonian mounts

Which type of Dobsonian mount is better: the kind with springs for
tension on the altitude axis (or no springs at all), or the Synta type
with 'tension control handles'?

I'll probably want to try a 2" eyepiece, so I'd like to know which one
can better handle the extra weight/balance.

Well, as I built my dob and it was designed without those in mind, I've set up
my own system and the main part is good old Bunji cords!

The GS type, the "Springy Thingys", definitely do work. On my 10 incher, I can
use both a Telrad and a 2 inch eyepiece without experiencing balance issues.

I believe the reason Synta/Orion changed is because they added encoders and the
springy things would get in the way of the encoders.
