Default camera mount

Can someone recommend some kind of adapter so i can mount my Nikon 990
digital camera to a 1.25" eyepiece? I'd like to try some astrophotography.
I've got scope and camera, now i need to marry the two.
Thanks
Eric

First of all, sorry about my english. I think your Nikon Camera has a thread
in front of the objective lens, like mine. I have the Nikon Coolpix 4500 and
I use an eyepiece with 28 mm thread. This kind of eyepieces are sold by
Scopetronix or William Optics. You can see it in my web site. It's in
spanish.

Clear skies!!!

Scopetronix sells an eyepiece that screws to your camera and is inserted
directly into a 1 1/4" focuser.
I believe it comes in 14mm and 18mm.

Go to www.scopetronix.com

I use a different system - the mount made by BC&F Astro Engineering
http://www.astro-engineering.com/. It screws into the tripod bush and
grips the eyepiece with a ring. You'll find their picture at
http://www.hfo.org.uk/Camera%20Mountings/digitalcameramou.html and a
picture I contributed on Mike Weasner's page at
http://www.weasner.com/etx/astrophotography/nikon.html. The 995 and
4500 share the same lens thread, AFAIK.

I have seen the following recommended elsewhe
http://www.telescope.com/shopping/se...word=steadypix

I do not own one, but intend to get one

It clamps on to the eyepiece, or perhaps the focuser, and then the camera is
attached using the tripod mounting screw hole. It seems that it would be
suitable for fairly light-weight cameras only.

Enjoy,
Vorpal

I'm not familiar with the 990 model. Is its lens removeable? If so, it'll
be a standard Nikon bayonet-like mounting to the camera body, and all you'll
need to get is a "T-Mount Adapter" at any camera store for about US$10 or so.
Two that I have (for Nikon) are the Qualide T-MOUNT ADAPTER, part 25-166-0486
which I bought at a local Wolf Camera, and the Orion #05205 which they call a
"T-ring, Nikon" (and costs $4 more than the one from Wolf Camera).

Once you have the T-mount adapter, then you need a "Prime Focus Adapter" which
screws into the T-mount adapter at one end and the other end resembles a normal
1-1/4" eyepiece barrel and simply slips into the scope (or diagonal if you're
hurting for clearance space).

A reasonably good "Prime Focus Adapter" can be found in Orion's #05264 Univeral
Camera Adapter 1.25" kit which includes a prime focus adapter and stuff for
eyepiece projection.

If your lens is non-removeable, then you need a bracket fixture to hold your
camera (via its 1/4-20 tripod mounting socket) against an eyepiece. Several
companies make these but the only one I've used is Orion's #05228 SteadyPix
Universal Camera Mount. Visit http://www.telescope.com/ to see the Orion
items; key in the part numbers (#nnnnn) to go directly to the item page.

The lens has a thread on it, i believe its 28mm. You can add lens to it
also, although i havnt done that.
Here's a blip describing the camera:
3.34 megapixel CCD for ultra high definition 2,048 x 1536 pixel images; 3x
Zoom-Nikkor lens with focal range of 8-24mm combined with 4 x digital zoom;
Manual Exposure enables full creative control; USB interface for fast data
transfer;

I use a 28mm to T adapter (from Scopetronix) which is fitted to a standard Orion
eyepiece projection tube. You just pop this into the EP tube and you're good to
go with afocal imaging.
