During a bit of a clear out I came across a Feb 1985 issue of the
Journal of the BAA - and my eye fell on a (good) review of a book called ZX Spectrum Astronomy by one Maurice Gavin. Bet that brings back a few memories and not just for Maurice. As the clear out gets more profound I hope to find PET Astronomy and then, maybe, Abacus Astronomy. Astronomy on the pocket calculator never got buried too deep but is beginning to fall apart. The BAA handbook for the same year also emerged. Data for the 33 solar system Moons fit easily on a page. Try that for the 123 (??) moons known today. The ephemerides of the Galilean satellites take up nearly 8 double column pages. Thank god for home computers on whose evolutionary ladder the ZX is an essential rung. Does a Psion series 3a count? An excellent little Astronomy prog; "Procyon 2.06c" from J. Sussenbach, P. van Can. But not sure if this is still active; http://www.xs4all.nl/~psion/procyon.html Probably the most extensive Astronomy program for the Series 3a/3c. Yale Star Database. Full Messier Coverage Full NGC Coverage Ephemeris Reference Star DataBase Constellation Lines Lots of beautiful pictures and sounds "Little" is relative, it nearly fills up the 2Mb Psion. Has to be seen to be believed! HTH, &B-) Ian No Spam, Please reply to newsgroup! |
