Quantum entanglement is a property of photons or particles, which travel at the speed of light for photons or less for particles. In the case of photons, they are using light (or radio for lower frequencies). In the case of particles, much much slower. Hopefully they are not using gamma ray bursts for communication. Rich |

Rich Quantum entanglement is not well understood "spooky action at a distance" has been described as instantaneous "Entanglement, the "spooky" effect in which far-distant particles appear to influence one another instantaneously" http://focus.aps.org/story/v10/st29 or ""spooky action at a distance" -- somehow one particle manages to tell the other *instantaneously* what its spin was measured to be" http://www.fnal.gov/pub/inquiring/qu...anglement.html although others state that no information can be transferred http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_entanglement. Whether light or other particles are used and then separated to large distance by conventional means, the book may not be entirely closed on instantaneous information transfer. |

Regardless, even if it's right (and that's an issue all by itself) it's certain that the carrier of the effect can move no faster than 'c'. And the problem is, while you can read the state of a particle, you cannot set it. Even according to the QM types it cannot be used for superluminal communication. http://www.fnal.gov/pub/inquiring/qu...anglement.html although others state that no information can be transferred http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_entanglement. I've seen no proposals for entanglement that make any sense. Scientific American had an explanatory cartoon in an issue that illustrates the issue completely. A discovery is made on mars. By some unexplained method, it's discoverers transmit the information with a single qubit. Their compatriots receive the qubit, make a totally off the wall guess which has nothing to do with the qubit, make a killing in the stock market and everyone lives happily ever after. Don't bet the farm on entanglement, this tree won't bear fruit. Rich |
