A column by William Safire in the NY Times about William Casey's
technology disinformation campaign against the KGB included this aside: "...After studying the list of hundreds of Soviet agents and purchasers (including one cosmonaut) assigned to this penetration in the U.S. and Japan, Weiss counseled against deportation..." Now some cosmonauts were known GRU, but any idea which one was recruited for this KGB operation? The whole article is at http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/02/opinion/02SAFI.html |

According to http://www.loyola.edu/dept/politics/...ll_dossier.pdf (p.123; PDF p.3) it was one of the Apollo-Soyuz cosmonauts or, I'd suppose, one of their back-ups. See http://pages.prodigy.net/pxkb94ars/Astro_ASTP.htm for a list of possibilities. |
