![]() "rk" wrote in message ... OK, need a bit of help here. Old movie As others have already told you., the movie is The Andromeda Strain. However, do yourself a favor and buy the book instead. It's MUCH better than the movie. I've been waiting for the past few years, with Michael Crichton a hot Hollywood property and many remakes being done, that someone would remake this movie... with today's new special effects and a good dramatic director, I think you could really have a tense movie akin to Outbreak. I've been waiting for the past few years, with Michael Crichton a hot Hollywood property and many remakes being done, that someone would remake this movie... with today's new special effects and a good dramatic director, I think you could really have a tense movie akin to Outbreak. Bruce I doubt it would be better, just dumbed down a few notches. The "bug" would mutate into a 19 year old female that men could not resist, and she would suck their brains out of thru their ears (this is where the special effects would come in with lots of gory detail). The nuke would come into play, when she escapes (thanks to stupid men not listening to the the enlightened female scientist/activist(/lesbian?)) and the really mean military people want to use a nuke to take out all life within 100 miles. At some point the 19 year old female bug would have a showdown with the military general. This would take place right after the general orders peace protesters/human shields beaten (good guys). The general would be cut in half (with a stupid, surprised look on his face) then his brain consumed. After eating his brain, the bug now knows everything the general knows. It can now get on the general's cell phone and order any city nuked (this is done in order to further point out how stupid the military is). Meanwhile the female scientist/activist develops (by develop I mean pulls out of her ass, in the best tradition of Star Trek) a drug that can kill the bug if she can just get close enough to jabb the needle into its arm. She will explain the process by which she developed the poison by using a lot of technobabel (again like Star Trek, the next generation). If she is not a lesbian, then you can bet her boyfriend is some sensitive pussy with a beard. Well to shorten this tangent that I have gone off on, I will say that the remainder of the movie will be gunfire, explosions, catchphrases (make my day, feel lucky punk, time to die bitch), and a reflective speech on the futileness of war. |

I think you'll wait a long time - with very few exceptions, films and especially remakes have got a lot dumber. The Andromeda Strain film was a remarkably good translation, IMO. I liked the Apollo 11 reference - this should be going to sci.space.history, not sci.space.shuttle. I could have done without them killing a real monkey, though. -- Save the Hubble Space Telescope! And when did they clone Pat? Dunno, but surely the real Pat would have caught on to the "Michael Crichton hates Scientists" theme, and would have had the Chief Bad Guy be not the General but the Chief of Design at the Rocket Bureau (with initials BvW). /dps |

The Andromeda Strain (1971)
A U.S. Army satellite (Scoop VII) falls to earth near Piedmont, New Mexico. The recovery team experiences difficulties as it becomes clear that the satellite has performed its intended function all too well, and has brought back something from space. A team of scientists is assembled in a high-tech, underground facility to identify and defeat the "enemy" before it is too late. "rk" wrote in message ... OK, need a bit of help here.
