John Maxson wrote: Nicholas Fitzpatrick wrote in message ... Look, I've said I won't prejudge you. And I apologise for doing so without listening to your side of the story. Okay, let's start over. This thread is misnamed. Pappy hasn't "set the record straight;" he helped set me up. He and my lead attorney failed to file a False Claims case for me as promised. They claimed they couldn't get their FOIA requests (for film) filled by NASA at JSC. They told me to request it *for* them from KSC. KSC refused. Then they said they *had* to have an original frame for spectral analysis of the flame at 59 seconds in order to file. Months later, into the Bush administration in 1989, they eventually settled for a "screening" session. In no way did that aid spectral analysis. Okay, I really can't argue against this. Once it goes legal ... What would have NASA's motive be in covering this up? High-level officials at NASA wanted to keep their jobs. And that in itself, is quite believable. And somewhat to be expected. Standard engineering procedure, cover your ass and assign blame. But why any more blame for a failure other than O-ring failure? Sure, cover-ups occur, but they must be for a reason ... I expect we are witnessing one right now, in the White House ... but that's another story. It's not altogether another story, believe it or not. I must confess, I have a feeling there is something going on in the USA that I can't quite get my head around ... Iraq, War on Terrorism, new security laws, suspension of rights for political prisoners in that US base in Cuba, Rumsfield, Republicans, massive deficits. I see all this oddness, and I don't know what the bigger picture is. And as a second question. Why do you keep adding other groups to the Newsgroups: line? I don't. Those are the same groups I've always posted to (with the Mosley title). Don't attack me personally and you won't see that abuse notice. Feel free to change this title (and groups) if you like. Okay, I see your sensitivity to the title. Let's just move this to a different thread. Nick |

You said you are an engineer. Standard engineering procedure, cover your ass and assign blame. That wasn't the situation. They were ordered to launch and ordered to cover up the results. At the very top, an Acting Administrator commanded the wishes of Reagan's 'secret gov.' But why any more blame for a failure other than O-ring failure? I had warned the Senate of the root cause, intentional cryo leaks. The O-ring scam was set up so no one could be blamed, but the weather was to account for the cold. When no O-ring failed, I had to be silenced. Otherwise the 'secret gov' would have toppled then, and *all* the president's men would gone to prison, or worse. -- John Thomas Maxson, Retired Engineer (Aerospace) Author, The Betrayal of Mission 51-L (www.mission51l.com) |

What the heck, it's 3 AM, let's get political. ![]() Bigger pictu Tyrrany built on cowardice, supported by ignorance (you can't change the world if you don't know dick about it, right? Friggin' media). Fascism, in about 20 years, thanks to Ashcroft. By then I'll be living in Finland. :P Make me dictator-for-life and we become an Aerospace Nation, right after I make unsolicited advertising a capital offense. All that stuff is gvt-bought anyhow, we just porked out 80 BILLION DOLLARS (*does Dr. Evil pinkie thing*) for "fighting terrorism" - Christ, we could have BOUGHT the Afghan-Pakistani border region where Osama lives for that much. Take that sort of cash and invest it wisely in space-related stuff, and don't skimp on the engineering & science education for the kids... Boy that would be cool. I don't know what the incentives for new markets & resources are though, there aren't any poor brown people on the moon to make more shoes for us. Asteroid mining? High-speed suborbital travel for business types? That might not be a big deal for the Atlantic, but cutting down flights to Japan from 12 hours to 3 would be useful for SOMEBODY, surely. For that matter, imagine delivering express cargo at Mach 7. That's a really wild what-if, I think... How about the hypersonic equivalent of a 747 freighter? Is that even possible? Just rambling... Maybe I can inject some value into a "Dear JTM, why are you nuts?" thread. ![]() |

You must understand that the two political parties were at odds over how the manned and unmanned space money should be spent, as they are now. Seems a little drastic to me. That doesn't stop the venal and greedy, especially when they can't get what they want done through legal procedures. -- John Thomas Maxson, Retired Engineer (Aerospace) Author, The Betrayal of Mission 51-L (www.mission51l.com) |

Even the White House has stopped linking the former Iraqi regime with the fundamentalist terrorists. And the massive deficits had started before; and certainly have been aided by strangely-timed tax cuts. Nick |

I wouldn't put much oddness past the current regime, but ... I had no idea we were engaged in a debate. I like discussion, and I was trying to answer your direct question as to motive. Surely you haven't forgotten introducing that topic! Let me recommend one of my favorite books for preparatory reading. It is 'To Set the Record Straight,' by John J. Sirica. You should be able to find it in the library, or for a couple of bucks at a garage sale or in a used book store. -- John Thomas Maxson, Retired Engineer (Aerospace) Author, The Betrayal of Mission 51-L (www.mission51l.com) |

The deficit is minimal compared to the total federal budget. The deficit looks to be about 20% of the budget. $450B deficit vs $2200B fed budget. Borrowing one dollar in five is close to as bad as it gets, since Reagan's administration borrowed one dollar in four in the high-deficit years. |
