Default WarehouseExpress of Norwich

WarehouseExpress of Norwich UK.

Before you purchase from WarehouseExpress of Norwich, England, a word
of warning. I was duped into purchasing a Helios Startravel 150
Refractor telescope when I believed I was buying an Evostar 150
Refractor telescope.

They advertised a telescope on their web site, it was entitled, Helios
Startravel 150, however, the description and picture were of the
Helios Evostar 150, and in addition, a footnote stated it came with a
motorised EQ5 mount. When I queried and the description and footnote,
I was told that the footnote was incorrect, however, the description
and specification was correct for the telescope. They checked the
physical condition of the telescope and reduced it by a small amount
as it had a few scratches on the mount.

I have spoken to various people, including the owner at
WarehouseExpress and essentially it's tough, they are not going to
supply the correct telescope. I still have not received my receipt,
the missing instruction manual or the guarantee despite many requests.
The Advertising Standards Authority and the Trading Standards are
currently investigating the matter.

I suggest you go to one of the more respectable and trustworthy
sellers available.

Andy,
Make sure the Advertising Standards Authority and Trading Standards follow
through and make sure everything is in writing.
Trading standards, in my experience, sometimes do not have funding to be
efficient try for a writen stament that they have taken your case up and ask
for a progress report after ,say a month. Best of luck, please let us know
how you get on.

That's a shame. I've had nothing but good experiences with WarehouseExpress
over the last few years.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

I've been tempted by their website and prices many times, but as they seem to
hide their physical address*, I've always bought elsewhere. *Multimap returns a
"doesn't recognise" to both versions of their postcode, NR3 2WN & NR32WN.

This could well be a one-off problem, although it does not absolve them
from their responsibilities.

However, I (and several people I know) have bought from them on several
occasions - and have had no problems whatsoever. In fact the service I
received was excellent.

That's because they use a PO Box number for their address and these often
don't show up on the likes of multimap etc.

Did you get screen prints off of their website etc?

If you really think you have a problem, I'd be tempted to write to Astronomy
Now and point out that you are having problems with one of their
advertisers. Many years ago I bought a PC from a copmany called Olympic
Technology, they used to have a big advert in several of the main PC
magazines (inside of front cover). I assumed that such a company would be
OK to buy from as clearly the magazines wouldn't let a mickey mouse outfit
have front position so to speak. Well I was lucky to get my PC as a couple
of months later the company folded. It also turned out that they had not
been paying for their advertising, for which the PC magazines got a fair old
roasting, as many people would have assumed that the magazines only carried
adverts from good payers so to speak.

Things have moved on a little since then I know, but I'd still be tempted to
write.

I've wandered past their 1st-floor office/depot in Norwich - It's definitely
there - opposite the Coach & Horses pub on Bethel Street.

Postcodes are technically allways split as letter, letter, number (one or 2
digits), space, number, letter, letter.
The split is NR3 2WN.
The reason that Multimap doesn't recognise it, is that it is a 'one company'
assigned address. All post to NR3 2WN, is to 'Warehouse Express', rather
than to a single physical address (WN, is on the Norwich Post Office
database, as 'Warehouse Express Norwich'). This is quite common with
companies, and especially to those using a PO Box. If you reject companies
based on this, perhaps a quarter of the companies in the country, would end
up being 'ruled out'...
I have purchased stuff in the past from Warehouse express, allways taking
the time to be sure that I knew what I was ordering, and have had no
problems, including one occasion, where there was a shipping shortfall,
which was quickly rectified.
Without knowing what was really said, in regards to the discrepancy between
the parts of the web advert, and the damage to the item, it is hard to know
who was at fault here. The discount for scratches, suggests that this was a
'out of the box' item, and it may be that the sale was done on an 'as is'
basis, for such kit, and hence their unwillingness to fix the problem. It'll
be interesting to hear the outcome.

Best Wishes

Multimap is fallible. The genuine address is:

Warehouse Express
PO Box 659
Sweet Briar Road Industrial Estate
NORWICH
NR3 2WN

Best,
Stephen
