I watched BS with some trepidation, but *$diety* is this thing bad.
Random questions and comments; -Did this show have any actual writers, or did they download the script off of a fanfic board so obscure that even Google can't find it? -Memo to director: Cinematographic tricks are no substitute for lack of writing, rehearsal, and acting skill. -Could they have tried any harder to make that EW ship look like a *really cheap* model? -Comment: Human factors folks, human factors. Who puts friggin lightbulbs at *eye level*? -Military organizations have rules and customs on when to salute. They *don't* do so spastically and without rhyme or reason. -Are the any characters in the program that are *not* caricatures? -Did they miss any cliches in this episode? Burn off your extra fuel... I liked it. I may be in the minority, but I think it rocked. 'Course I went over to my friends house and watched it on a 2000-inch HDTV. I am a diehard original series fan, but this way outclassed the original. No campy 'cringe' scenes here, no sir! |

I am a diehard original series fan, but this way outclassed the original. No campy 'cringe' scenes here, no sir! I liked it, too. I especially liked Number 6 seducing the Colonial rep before the diplomatic station got blown to hell. I liked the sense of incipient dread as the Colonial colonies and forces fell, one by one. I liked the flight radio chatter. I liked the sense of incredulity in the Colonial fleet as the scope of the situation became clear - they'd been sleepwalking through their duties for 50 years and never expected to have to actually DO anything (much like I imagine the U.S. forces at Pearl Harbor probably felt 63 years ago). I liked the fact that they had to pull the Mark 2's out of the "museum" flight bay because the fancy-schmancy new Vipers were compromised. I like the fact that Baltar isn't a charicature turncoat, but is instead a lucky dupe - that's much more common that blackhearted treachery, and much more interesting. I liked the fact that there aren't "blasters" on the spacecraft - projectiles and guided missiles. Oh, and firing opposing thrusters would be a way to null asymmetrical rates induced from an off-axis thrust from another thruster - say, one or two firing perpendicular that aren't aligned quite right. You don't know that the opposing thrusters are on/off only or if they have variable thrust as well as firing duration. Derek's just being curmudgeonly again. ;-) -- Herb Schaltegger, B.S., J.D. Actually after hanging out in alt.battlestar.galactica for awhile, I doubt it. You'd have thought that Ron Moore was purposely trying to **** off the original fans. I mean some were so rabid I wouldn't be surprised if some shot their TV sets on general principal just so they couldn't watch it. -Memo to director: Cinematographic tricks are no substitute for lack of writing, rehearsal, and acting skill. Works for far too many other shows. -Military organizations have rules and customs on when to salute. They *don't* do so spastically and without rhyme or reason. Bah, lot's of shows seem to screw that up. -Are the any characters in the program that are *not* caricatures? -Did they miss any cliches in this episode? Hey, sounds like the original. :-) D. -- The STS-107 Columbia Loss FAQ can be found at the following URLs: Text-Only Version: http://www.io.com/~o_m/columbia_loss_faq.html Enhanced HTML Version: http://www.io.com/~o_m/columbia_loss_faq_x.html Corrections, comments, and additions should be e-mailed to , as well as posted to sci.space.history and sci.space.shuttle for discussion. |

We were told once (on each ship) that the game was over and the colonial forces ****ed. Maybe about 90 seconds tops out of a two hour episode.
