Mission Information Report No. 6

Flight Day 8 (22 April 2005, GMT Day 112):

Biology

AES: The photographs of the bags with the "Agrospace Experiment Suite"
experiment containing beans and the rucola seeds were taken as planned today
by the ESA astronaut Roberto Vittori. The experiment will continue until
Flight Day 10 on 24 April.

CRI: Vittori performed the activities required to terminate the second and
final egg-collection session for the "Crickets in Space" experiment. He then
initiated the procedure to reconfigure the inserts of the KUBIK incubator,
which accommodated the experiment during the Eneide mission, to its previous
configuration. The experiment will continue until Flight Day 10. The KUBIK
incubator continues to perform without problems, operating at a temperature
of 27.7 degrees C.

Human Physiology

HPA: The Hand Posture Analyser activities planned for today were performed
nominally, with video data being obtained. Data was downlinked to the ground
for analysis by the Principal Investigator team. Todays activities
successfully complete the HPA experiment.

MOP: Roberto Vittori completed the daily questionnaire for the "Motion
Perception" experiment as planned.
Technology

ENM: The procedure to accomplish the Electronic Nose Monitoring experiment
was performed nominally immediately this morning.

LAZ: The Low Altitude Zone Ionizing Observatory experiment continues to
operate in reduced mode. The Light Flash activities for today performed
nominally. A data downlink was sent from the ISS to the Lazio User Centre
via the Columbus Control Centre for analysis by the scientists on the
ground. The precise close-out activities for the experiment will be defined
tomorrow.

Education

There were no more educational experiment activities today for the Eneide
mission on the ISS, as all experiments for the mission have already been
completed successfully, however, Roberto Vittori participated through live
video transmission in an education event which took place in ESA's
establishment ESRIN in Frascati, Italy.

First analysis of experiments already completed

Bone Proteomics (BOP), Contribution of Visceral Receptors to the Sense of
Subjective Vertical (VSV), Heart Beat Monitoring (HBM) and Hand Posture
Analyser (HPA) have all completed their experimental runs and await
post-flight analysis. The initial results by the scientific teams on the
ground appear very promising. A high level of scientific return from the
ENEIDE mission can thus be expected.
