The best way to filter spam for this round is to drop all messages from A*.

I guess that leaves Alan Erskine out

Then you'd be having to filter out "B*" and then "C*" and so on. It's not
that easy.

Also, the number of spam posts has dropped-off from yesterday; give it a
week and see what happens.

I'm not changing my name for anyone; I was born with it and I'll die with
it.

Well, if that solves the spam problem, "that can be arranged" :-)

Not your real name, just the name you post under.
If you were change that to Zeno Xctasy, it would be a long time before
you had any trouble.*
For that matter, just changing it to "alan erskine" rather than "Alan
Erskine" could help if all that needed to be filtered were upper case A's.

* You might also have a new career as a glam rocker with a name like
that. ;-)

I'd keep that, but it might cause confusion over at sci.space.tech.
We can just see Zeno Xctasy though, can't we?
Aging drug-addled glam rocker who can see stars even in the daytime, and
has bigger hair than any girl he goes out with.... and probably more
makeup on to boot.
He has a shrine to David Bowie in his house, and all the ceilings are
decorated with huge paintings of whales swimming through space and stars.
He never makes a major decision without without consulting his shaman
for the effect it will have on his Karma, and his organic garden has ten
different species of hallucinogenic mushrooms in it.
Zeno has been known to start conversations with garden gnomes, who he
thinks are real beings, but just fond of standing still in daylight.
He has a pet dog, "Zen", and is in constant psychic contact with
it...even though he hasn't seen it in three years - as it is a "free
range" pet and must wander the world seeking its true destiny with no
interference from humanity.
His postings to space newsgroups will always start with: "Man, is this
a" 1. Groovy, 2. Way-Out, 3. Totally Bad, 4. Radical, 5. Spacey
"....trip, and like you know, it's burning into my mind like a nova star
of some sort." followed by complete gibberish involving dogs, whales,
mushrooms, music, and twisted astronomy.
To catch some of the flavor of this, go to this webpage and have a peek
at things; this could have been written by Zeno himself:

I was thinking more along the lines of a drugged-up Doctor Smith from Lost
in Space - he played a character called Zeno in that.

I have to admit that there was a great temptation to bring Zeno Xctasy
into existence on Usenet, but I'd feel that his postings should have
reflected his world view, non-existent though he was...and in a world
that already has too far blurred the line between fantasy and reality, I
don't need that little critter running around inside of my head.

I think Zeno Xctasy had a brother who served in a MASH unit in Korea. I
believe his name was Captain Tuttle.

Zeno was a brave man, who donated most of his spare time to helping
orphans...

I love MASH - I've got all 11 series', but not the original movie yet. My
favourite character of all was Colonel Flag - says everything about the
military intelligence community.

Unfortunately, these were orphan Sockeye Salmon, and all of them seemed
to be orphans. :-)
