....Not 20 seconds into reading this one, I found this point of
question:

three parachutes operative at splashdown."

....IIRC, wasn't this determined to have been a burn-thru of one or
more of the tethers by RCS fuel, which compromised the chute
deployment?

Check 295:11:36 of the 15 Flight Journal. While RCS burnthrough was
considered the most likely cause, failure of the links could not be
ruled out.
