Default ASTRO: NGC 6872 et al

NGC 6872 is a distorted galaxy in Pavus.
I wonder if it’s small companion IC 4970 is the sole culprit for NGC 6872’s
stretched arms.

Taken from Namibia/Kiripotib Farm with a 10” Meade ACF on an MK100 mount,
Trius SX694 camera, 8x10min Lum, 3x10min each RGB. Image scale is
0,66"/pixel.

Sometimes I wish I lived in Ecuador so I had the entire sky at hand. Though at 70 degrees this one would still be pretty low.

That companion has the right redshift and shows a possible connection to the end of the rigid part of the arm but just doesn't seem massive enough to me. Now where's that time machine when you need it?

Anyway that is a great image of a great field.
