ASTRO: A fistful of galaxies
With apologies to Clint Eastwood....
The full resolution version (33.1Mpixel) has a lot of galaxies visible. This is 58 x 15 minutes of unfiltered light: AP155EDF f/7 with 4" field flattener and FLI Proline PL39000M monochrome. 14.5 hours total exposure http://www.narrowbandimaging.com/m10...camel_page.htm |

Including one on my to-do list, MAPS-NGP O_134_0070142. It's the odd two arm spiral at the top edge near the upper right corner. If it's redshift is correct then it's a bit over 1.5 billion light-years away. If it is then it is one huge galaxy to show so much detail even at your image scale. The "star" at the end of its lower arm (well just above the end) is at the same red shift so may be what drew its arms so far out. They are part of a cluster centered 2 minutes NE where there's a bright core galaxy that anchors the cluster, MaxBCG J209.15044+55.19236. It has 12 members at 1.65 billion light years average red shift. The difference is likely just orbital velocity differences. If so then the spiral I'm interested in is likely a bit further than its red shift would indicate. You beat me to it! 14.5 hours is one heck of a lot of time! Explains the smooth look to M101. You've got a lot more patience than I do! Rick -- Correct domain name is arvig and it is net not com. Prefix is correct. Third character is a zero rather than a capital "Oh". |

ASTRO: A fistful of galaxies
Gives one a feeling for the emptiness of space.
They really are islands in a vast ocean. On Sun, 25 Apr 2010 18:02:40 -0700, "Richard Crisp" wrote: With apologies to Clint Eastwood.... Richard,
that's a great field, looks very crisp even in full resolution. And depths is very good too, in spite of the low QE. Stefan "Richard Crisp" schrieb im Newsbeitrag m... well the depth thing is compensated by taking 15 minute subs instead of 5
minute ones.... "Stefan Lilge" wrote in message ... Richard, that's a great field, looks very crisp even in full resolution. And depths is very good too, in spite of the low QE.
