Two Arp's for the price of one. NGC 3718 is also ARP 214. Hickson 56
at the bottom is also Arp 322. Or at least part of it is. I don't read
the catalog as including the disconnected vertical edge on on the left
as part of his entry. NGC 3729 is on the left. Obviously the two NGC
galaxies had an encounter in the recent past. Their red shifts are
similar indicating a distance of about 50 million light years.

I took it mainly for 3718 but I'm finding the detail in 3729 more
interesting. It's a very interesting ring barred spiral with two
different sides. Seeing wasn't what I'd have liked.

Unfortunately, like all my images this winter, it was taken in moonlight
and I lost some of the fainter parts of NGC 3718 when removing moon
glare and gradients. This will have to do for this year.

14" LX200R @ f/10, L=12x10', RGB=4x10' binned 3x3, STL-11000XM, Paramount ME

Correct domain name is arvig and it is net not com. Prefix is correct.
Third character is a zero rather than a capital "Oh".

Very nice image Rick. I agree that NGC 3729 has very interesting detail,
but NGC 3718 is not too bad either ;-)
