Image: Jupiter (with new camera)
Greetings everyone,
This is the second light with my new DBK 21AF04.AS. My trusty Toucam Pro 740k that I purchased back in 2003 for $99.00 has gotten a well earned retirement or a has become a piece to loan to locals who want to give planetary astroimaging a try. First, in regards to the camera, viewing the data live as I captured it on my laptop, I would actually consider the conditions poor - average. A boiling soft disc that I thought I couldn't get into focus with little detail to be seen on the disc. So I was VERY surprised, after processing thousands of avis with my Toucam in similar conditons over the years, to get a result like this. I can't wait for good - excellent seeing. And, keep in mind, this was a target low on the horizon, shot over a hot roof. The camera uses Firewire technology which allows me to capture uncompressed avis and shoot at higher frame rates. This one was shot at 30fps. I was able to stack over 1000 frames, something I have never been able to do with any of the planets in much better conditions. So at this point I'm giving the DBK 5 stars out of 5. Just anxious for a try at Mars as soon as conditions permit. |
