if we had to leave this planet and colonize elsewhere...

We took a vacation out to Yellowstone and the Black Hills several years ago. Lots of places serve bison meat out there. The best bison burgers were in the american-indian-run restaurant at the east end of the Badlands (if you cook them like beef they tend to dry out, since they have only around 3% fat.) My favorite uncle, Jim, lived in Billings and regularly maxed out his ungulate-hunting licences. Moose tacos, venison, elk were all good, but smoked antelope ham was truly wonderful. |

kill all members of a species, then they won't be around anymore for further
use. And not all humans have got the word yet; thus the impending extinction of black rhinos for their horns, Siberian tigers for their penises, et cetera. And these critters are NOT being killed by or for the evil Western culture, but by local peoplesfor their own economic and cultural needs. Which goes to show that environmentalism and endangered species are a luxury for rich societies. |

Jack Tingle wrote: "Sir, move away from the buffalo and put down that distributor cap!" said Officer Mulgrew through the bull horn. "Now take some deep breaths and think about what you're doing here! The JBRS is just using you! You don't need to die for some cheap concrete, chicken wire, plywood, and paint, sir!" "Don't lesson to him! He's just a puppet of the Zionist powers!" I yelled through the bull horn. At this point both Mustafa Ibin Mohammed Abdul Bin Farouk and Billy-Bob Kluxer redoubled their efforts to get the gas inside the Accursed Jewish Concrete Thing to detonate, unaware that their purchasing the wrong gas at the Praxair welding supply store had filled the buffalo with an oxygen/helium mixture instead of an oxygen/acetylene one. Then the sound of cracking concrete filled the air, a sound that both thought indicated success... but it was the sound of the buffalo sculpture breaking free of the ground as slowly....but surely.... it floated off into the sky- only to crash to earth again at the "Sitting Bull's Revenge" Indian Gaming Casino outside Mandan- where it is still revered as a scared totem object by the Lakota Stewed Indians. :-) Pat |

John Schilling wrote: The approximately 30,000 buffalo living in the United States and Canada will be surprised to learn that they are extinct. That estimate is much too low. In 2000 there were an estimated 250,000 bison, 90% of them in private herds. Serves me right for leaving out the three words, "in the wild". I've heard some people argue that a species qualifies as extinct if it exists only in zoos, etc. Which is silly, but I wanted to make the point that the North American Bison isn't close to extinct even by that standard. But yes, there are many, many buffalo being raised for meat, and there are a few dozen wild herds of a few hundred to a few thousand animals each living in national parks and forests. -- *John Schilling * "Anything worth doing, * *Member:AIAA,NRA,ACLU,SAS,LP * is worth doing for money" * *Chief Scientist & General Partner * -13th Rule of Acquisition * *White Elephant Research, LLC * "There is no substitute * * for success" * *661-951-9107 or 661-275-6795 * -58th Rule of Acquisition * |

Yes, a "luxury", in the same way that science, medicine, human rights, and other Western notions might be called "luxuries". There is a crucial difference. These *other* Western notions, to the extent that a poor nation does implement them, can help it *cease* being poor. They are development catalysts. To a poor person, education and eating out may be equally hard to afford - but the former is an investment, the latter a pure luxury. |
