No, no incentive there to keep the global warming myth going. The ignorant and those who cultivate that ignorance are NEVER swayed by facts, logic, nor reality. They cultivate ignorance to instil fear..phobia actually, for fun and profit. Blochead and chrissy pooh are particularly fertile ground for the cultivators of ignorance... pity and ridicule are really the only valid responses ...actual debate is an impossibility here. |

I must admit that you *will* have an uphill battle in trying to convince me that oil companies are better judges of the validity of global warming than scientists - science being about the study of nature following a discipline of rigorously struggling against one's hopes and biases as well as other sources of error. But it certainly _is_ tempting to deny global warming when the only remedy on offer is going back to the dark ages. That, people are not going to do until it is "too late" to avoid whatever disasters global warming might lead to, which even an idiot should be able to realize. So there _is_ a political agenda operating, it's just at the *next step* - not the scientists who have found out about global warming, but the activists and the news media who get all the attention. Address global warming, and _not_ give up all our modern conveniences? It's been discovered fairly recently that the nuclei of certain isotopes of some heavy elements can be induced, under the bombardment of relatively slow-moving neutrons ("thermal neutrons"), to split into two parts of roughly equal size, plus some additional neutrons, releasing a rather large amount of energy. Those additional neutrons can split other such atoms, leading to what is called a "chain reaction". In fact, uranium fission has been proven to be a practical source of electrical energy, and is already in use in public utilities in several locations world- wide. As well, while U-235 is a rare isotope of uranium, nuclear reactors produce enough extra neutrons that both the most common isotope of uranium, U-238, and that of thorium, Th-232, can be transformed into fissionable fuels for nuclear power. (The former process has been proven in practical use; some engineering work needs to be done on thorium breeders, but it's nothing like the obstacles that have kept fusion power a prospect for the distant future.) It may be noted that while thorium is not a constituent of granite, it is present in basalt in a sufficient concentration that it is not hyperbole to regard thorium fission as approaching the potential inexhaustibility of fusion power. When I have to run a heater in June? My air conditioning hasn't been on since last summer. This signature is now the ultimate power in the universe |
