China tells former Japanese official it has no plans for more anti-
satellite tests
The Associated Press
Monday, February 12, 2007
BEIJING
[EXCERPT]

China has no plans to carry out another anti-satellite weapon test,
Japan's former defense chief said Monday, citing a conversation with
China's defense minister.

Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan's reported remarks are the
latest attempt by Beijing to quell criticism over last month's test,
in which a missile shattered a defunct Chinese weather satellite.

Former Japanese defense chief Fukushiro Nukaga told Japanese reporters
that Cao said at a meeting Monday that "China conducted a test for
scientific purposes and it did not target any country and did not pose
a threat to any country, and therefore it did not go against
agreements."

That's good news because, our ABLs can just as essentially disable a
given satellite without causing any physical parts going off every which
way but lose.

I do believe there was even a low-power ABL practice DoD proof of
technology achievement, as a required test firing for future R&D
funding, accomplished upon the returning Columbia mission, that which
certainly didn't help prevent the ultimate demise of that unfortunate
shuttle mission.
