Just remember that Scaled Composites SS1 is flight hardware, not a prototype or a scaled version. Their [and other's] development is being done in secret as is normal in a race environment. We may be surprized when the Xprize is popped. ^ //^\\ ~~~ near space elevator ~~~~ ~~~members.aol.com/beanstalkr/~~~ |

Just remember that Scaled Composites SS1 is flight hardware, not a prototype
or a scaled version. Their [and other's] development is being done in secret as is normal in a race environment. We may be surprized when the Xprize is popped. Actually, many of the teams are being quite public about their progress. For example, "Scaled Composites" posts flight data at http://scaled.com/projects/tierone/N...a/flt_data.htm. (They just did their second captive carry test on July 3). "Armadillo Aerospace" just did a full-scale drop test from a helicopter on July 5; see www.armadilloaerospace.com. "Starchaser Industries" is doing a manned drop test from a C-123 in Arizona July 21-25; see www.starchaser.co.uk. "Canadian Arrow" announced its astronaut team on June 26; see www.canadianarrow.com. The "da Vinci" team posted a cool video of their progress at www.davinciproject.com. And so on. For even more news updates, you can check out www.xprize.org. |
