Default Eyepiece size measurement

I see eyepieces referred to as being .96" or 1.25", is that measured
at the portion that fits into reciever, furthest from the eyepiece
lens?

It is the diameter of the "barrel", the part that slides into the focuser.

More specifically it is the outside diameter of the eyepiece barrel.

It's the outside diameter of the barrel -- the barrel is the shiny part that
slides into the focuser.

The stated size is the diameter of the nominal eyepiece-focuser interface
(a circle). The focus is allowed to be a bit larger than this diameter,
and the eyepieces are to be a bit less in diameter. That way all 1.25"
eyepieces will fit inside all 1.25" focusers, even allowing for variations
in
machining tolerance.

Cheers,
Larry G.
