ASTRO: Supernova 2007ca in Spiral Galaxy MCG -2-34-61
SN 2007ca is a Type Ia that I measured at magnitude 15.94 at 2:15 UT on May
14, 2007. That's brighter than the host galaxy! MCG-2-34-61 (constellation of Virgo) is a precular warped disk galaxy, or possibably two galaxies merging. I took the image under such poor seeing condtions that the small extension (warped arm of a second galaxy) is just bearly visable. A 15 minute exposure with an SBIG STL-1301E camera thru an OGS 20-inch F/8.1 RC Cass. For more info, see: http://www.kopernik.org/images/archive/mcg-02-34-61.htm and http://astro.berkeley.edu/~bait/2007/sn2007ca.html George N |

ASTRO: Supernova 2007ca in Spiral Galaxy MCG -2-34-61
Still a very interesting object in spite of the bad seeing. This is at last
a supernova which lives up to the "as bright as the whole rest of the galaxy" claim, that I have often read about supernovae. Fortunately I can't complain about the seeing this spring. I had some very bright moonlit nights, but seeing was better than the previous years. Stefan "George Normandin" schrieb im Newsbeitrag ... Stefan, The seeing was **really** bad the night I took this. I had another SN image but I just deleted it. Hopefully we'll get some good seeing before Saturn goes. I need to get some images of him with the refractor. George N |
