You're making the same basic mistake as Nancy, Rudy old bean... magnetic
pole reversal spin axis pole movement. The latter is held constant by our
pal, the moon. Unless you get rid of the moon, you are unlikely to effect a
shift in the Earth's spin axis poles.

Rudolph, when will Planet X be naked eye visible?

The article states, "Records of the field direction, frozen into
sediments laid down on the seabed, show that the magnetic field has
reversed hundreds of times in the past 400 million years... the last
reversal 730,000 years ago."

The records show evidence that the magnetic field has reversed hundreds
of times. Where was the moon during those past reversals? Are you saying
that the Earth recently aquired the moon within the past 730,000 years,
and prior to that the Earth had no moon? If you are saying that the
magnetic poles are kept constant by the moon, then it appears that the
evidence of past pole reversals seems to indicate that you are wrong,
unless, of course, the Earth had no moon during those reversals.

No, obviously not. What sort of mental malady do you have that
would interpret his post in such a fashion? Clearly, obviously,
Paul referred to the positions of the rotational poles, and not
to the magnetic poles. In fact, he took particular pains to
mention that the axial, rotational poles that are stabilized by
the Moon.

Clearly you are intentionally misinterpreting his post. He
stated that the physical rotational poles are stabilized by
the Moon. The magnetic poles are free to reverse and
wander according to their own dynamics.

It would seem that you are the one trying to make hay from
a misleading article title, implying that the rotational
axis ("the poles") are wont to flip hither and thither. The
article itself made it clear that it was the magnetic poles
that were being discussed.

You know... Nancy could never keep this straight either... makes one wonder.
Rudy? Are you really Nancy?

Thought this was sarcasm, at first.

Whoosh! Reckon it wasn't sarcasm after all! Hint: "" is a graphic
representation of "not equal to."

Now, the reversal, when it happens, will certainly cause its share of
problems. It'll likely be a boon for my career field - avionics
software. Hope it happens soon!
