They didn't think it would be able to get back out when it went in, but
of course it did: http://spaceflightnow.com/news/n0808/30merb/
Those rovers are downright amazing.

They've been going for four years. Not bad for something designed for a
90-day mission.

They must have the Energizer Bunny powering them. The warranty's been out for a good
while and they still keep on truckin'. Either that, or the Mars AAA has done some
roadside assistance....

AAA has done a road-side visit once - one of the wheels refused to work;
apparently, it's working again.

....And apparently they did the windows, considering the solar cells
appear to be cleaner as well.

Was it one of those martian bums that spit on your window when you
stop at a light then cuss you if you don't give them a dollar?

Nah... that was done by the guy on the nearest street corner, with a bucket
and sponge. Cost NASA all of 20 cents.

LOL! If that's the case, then everything should be built to the same 90-day
standard. ;-)

There was obviously some excess margin designed into the systems in order to
meet that 90 day goal. Plus, it looks good if you exceed the original
expectations, so you deliberately set those low to make yourself look good.
Remember Scotty on Star Trek? :-)
