Does anyone know how the Spirit and Opportunity mars rovers are
communication with the earth receivers, protocol, frequency? Is
encryption used?

Thanks.

(Almost) all you need is at:

If what you're wondering about is listening in, do bear in mind that the
data rate is routinely cranked up to the point that DSN -- with enormous
dish antennas and extremely expensive cryogenically-cooled receivers --
can just barely decode the bits reliably. Nobody with lesser resources
has any chance of getting intelligible results.

Not all the DSN amplifiers are super cryogenic travelling
wave masers, some are transistor based. Though those too
are cryogenically cooled (to ~15 K) and are of a special
design and definitely not off the shelf.
