Chaps,

Am i right in assuming that camera triopd sockets are 1/4 UNC thread?
And if so does anyone know of a Kent supplier of said bolts?

The thread depends on the source/age of the unit!. Originally tripod
bushes were 1/4 Whit, but some latter kit switched to 1/4 UNC (especially
American sourced stuff). The threads are the same pitch (20TPI), but one
has a 55 degree tooth shape, and the other 60 degree. Given the tolerances
in normal manufacture, they will normally fit one another, but the final
strength is slightly degraded.
How long do you need the bolts to be?. What head do you want?.
The primary places where these threads will be found now, are airfields,
and people dealing with older cars/motorcycles. A gentle request of an
engineer at a local airfield (Headcorn or Rochester spring to mind), may
find some old bolts this size, in his 'scrap' bin. London Fastening
Company in Beckenham, may be able to help you. Many camera shops will have
a few spare tripod bolts in a drawer. In Sussex, 'Namrick', while in
Essex, 'Group components', or 'Wakefields', should be able to help. Any
'theatrical supply' company, will also normally do 1/4 Whit fastenings for
some of the lamps, and cameras. PAG broadcasting equipment, in SW London,
do a lot of interesting fittings. Several small companies will do these
items by mail order, which may be an option.

Best Wishes

There used to be an 'old style' ironmonger in the
centre of Canterbury that stocked everything like that.
Probably still there.

You could also try any CCTV supplier as most cameras use this
mount/thread. I have probably got some around somewhere. I you are
really stuck Robert mail me. they are probably 25mm long hex head.
