What would you like to be our major goals in space
What would you like to be our major goals in space over the next 50
years ? Examples are :- 1) Landing a man on Mars 2) Return to the Moon 3) Un-manned exploration of planets and moons in the Solar System 4) Space Station expansion I personally can not see much point in maintaining (or building in the first place) the space station. I would like to see a person step on to Mars as soon as possible mainly because I think this will force us to develop new technologies quickly allowing other missions to take place. A permanent base on Mars would be cheaper and prefable rather than a return trip if volunteers could be found (I would think that there would be many volunteers even with the high risks and discomfort involved). This would force many technolgies to be developed and could be the start of new colony for the human species. (A good insurance policy) Un-manned exploration of the planets and moons in the Solar System should continue with more emphasis on landings rather than just fly-bys although Cassini has been an example of a mission of which I fully approve. Obvious targets are the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, with a landing and possible descent in to Europa being a priority. |

My goal would be many thousand of people in space, pursuing their own interests. |

Or will legal issues just have to be addressed as they come up? Also, do you have any idea how much it annoys me when I agree with you? -- It Came From Corry Lee Smith's Unclaimed Mysteries. http://www.unclaimedmysteries.net "Being an Auburn fan explains a lot about what is wrong with you, Unclaimed ... You didn't chose to address any of my post except this last little piece where I ridiculing you for being an idiot." - "Altie" on rec.sport.football.college, 2006 |

Yes. Is "space law" mature enough to help this vision along? No, it needs major tweaking. Also, do you have any idea how much it annoys me when I agree with you? How would I? And why would I care? |

New larger rotating space station, one in earth orbit and one in lunar orbit. 2. Large moon base city completely self-sustaining from mineral extraction, smelting, robotic and manned space craft development and construction to recycling, hydroponic gardening and solar/nuclear power. Launching space missions from the moon, some of them life long or even multigenerational. 3. Large mars base city like number 2 and a large space dock space station in orbit. 4. Eventually we'd have bases on several moons of our solar system and have vehicles headed for planets in the Proxima Centauri, Rigil Kentaurus, Bernard's star, Wolf359, Luyten and Sirius systems to start with. And just think of the spin-off technologies that would benefit earth! Especially waste recycling and efficient agriculture not to mention new unthought of inventions in energy and medicine. Instead we are dumping billions into the Iraq **** hole with NO benefit for us or them. |

ps.com... What would you like to be our major goals in space over the next 50 years ? 1) Cost to LEO to less than $50/kg. 2) Add 5 terawatts of space-generated power to the Earth's power grid. |

- Reduce launcher costs; with that everything else becomes much more
feasible. - Develop Solar power stations in Earth orbit. Carbon-neutral energy is humanity's most pressing need in this Century, and the only adequate source we know how to build today is space-based Solar. |
