This was taken with a 'lowly" SW 80/400 achromat. It rivals some of the
best AP and TV shots I have seen.
The OTA sells for a measly 150 US!!

If you're using a hydrogen alpha filter, you don't need good color
correction because you're looking at a very narrow band of light.

Thats a great shot! Chromatic abberation is a non-issue when the "input" is
such a narrow band of the visible spectrum.

well sure but you have to consider the optical quality overall and not just
color correction.
It would seem that the achromat doublet is of good quality for a cheap
price!!

HI Dennis:

I assume by "R. China" you mean "Red China," AKA "The People's Republic
of China." Skywatcher scopes are made by Synta. The Taiwanese firm. As
we discussed some time back. ;-)

The Orion Short Tube 80 is also made by Synta.

HI:

I agree. Thank god that money is still not the only path to sucess in
astronomy. I guess it's possible to buy your way in, but, even then, as
I said in another thread, the skill of the man or woman behind the
eyepiece is still more important than the pedigree of a telescope.
