HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE - Continuing to collect World Class Science

DAILY REPORT****** #4855

PERIOD COVERED: 5am May 28 - 5am May 29, 2009 (DOY
148/0900z-149/0900z)

OBSERVATIONS SCHEDULED

ACS/WFC 11367

CCD Hot Pixel Annealing

Hot pixel annealing will be performed during SMOV4 before the CCDs are
used for observations. The CCD TECswill be turned off and heaters will
be activated to bring the detector temperatures to about +20C. This
state will be held for approximately 12 hours, after which the heaters
are turned off, the TECs turned on, and the CCDs returned to normal
operating condition. To assess the effectiveness of the annealing, a
bias and four dark images will be taken before and after the annealing
procedure for both WFC and HRC. All the data for this program are
acquired using internal targets. The initial annealing occupied 5
visits. A copy of these visits to be run 4 to 5 weeks later has been
added to support proposals 11465, 11510 and 11511. The latter proposal
was too long.

SBC MAMA Recovery

Procedure normally used when ACS MAMA anomalously shuts down. We will
also use it during SM4 following the planned shutdown. Recovery
procedure is designed to carefully bring the MAMA back to operating
condition while watching for possible problems. The final step is to
do a fold analysis which gives detailed information about how well the
instrument is performing.

ACS/WFC/S/C 11809

ACS CEB-R Optimization Iteration 1

During the early weeks of SMOV the ACS-R team will work to find the
best parameters for CEB-R and the WFC CCD operations before continuing
with the normal SMOV activities and eventually enable science
operations. This optimization needs to be done in an iteratively way.
The plan is to have up to eight iterations spread out through SMOV
week 2-4. A core-set of observations aimed to assess the performance
of the CCDs and to check the relative phasing between the internal
ASIC signal and the incoming video signal will be repeated in all
iterations. In any given iteration a specific test will be run to
determine the best value for a given parameter. Data collected in each
iteration will be quickly analyzed and if needed, new parameters will
be uploaded in real time before the following iteration. The data will
consist of a mix of normal data (bias, flat, EPER, darks) and O-mode
data. In order to facilitate the program implementation, data
collection and reduction, the program will be implemented in eight
different proposals. 11809 covers the fist iteration and it executes
all the tests.

S/C 11347

Memory Load and Dump

This proposal is a test and verification of the STIS dump of memory
capability. Areas of Control Section (CS) to dump include: EDAC RAM,
EEPROM, and CS PROM (with the CS in Operate). Areas of MIE memory to
dump include: MIE RAM and MIE PROM (with the MIE in Operate). Note
that the MIE memory must first be copied to CS buffer RAM as images,
which are then dumped. Supports Activity STIS-02

FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY:

Significant Spacecraft Anomalies: (The following are preliminary
reports of potential non-nominal performance that will be
investigated.)

HSTARS: (None)

COMPLETED OPS REQUEST:

18460-0 - Restore WFC3 SDH tasking orders @ 148/1315z
18456-0 - Clear ACS Event Flag 2(SBC MAMA) Part 1 @ 148/1338z

SIGNIFICANT EVENTS:

Flash Reports:

-Six checks of WFC3 Buffer RAM have been conducted during SAA passes
and no bit flips occurred.

WFC3 remains operating nominally in its Protect Operate state. On Day
149/13:00z the servicing mission functional test will occur via stored
commanding. The next major activity for WFC3 will be transitioning out
of its Protect state and detector cooldown, tentatively scheduled for
the week of June 7th.
