"Antares" means "Rival of Mars" (literally "against Ares" or "anti-Ares").
Google the mythology for details. Sounds cool, but for obviously not a good
name for something going to Mars. I always expected to see the name Artemis
used somewhere for the new lunar stuff. She was Apollo's sister.
