Default SpaceX CEO Elon Musk Sues Government to Break US Air Force's NationalSecurity Launch Monopoly

"Elon Musk, CEO and founder of the upstart commercial launch venture SpaceX,
announced at a press conference today, Friday, April 25, that SpaceX is filing
suit against the Federal Government to protest and break the US Air Force's
awarding of lucrative launch contracts for high priority national security
satellites to a sole rocket provider - United Launch Alliance (ULA) - on a non
competitive basis.

The gloves are officially off in the intensely mounting duel over multibillion
dollar Air Force military launch contracts between SpaceX and ULA."

Good! congress must realize spending public money should be more than a gift to the politically connected

Definitely. I would point out that Elon Musk is most definitely one of
the politically connected, however. The particular contract was
probably awarded to the consortium of older more-established firms
because the people who awarded the contract are familiar with "the usual
suspects" and confident that they can do the job. In other words, they
probably didn't check out SpaceX thoroughly enough, or at least Musk and
company doesn't think that they did.

I'm a big SpaceX fan, and follow Elon Musk's activities with
considerable interest and mostly approval. But any portrayal of him now
as "the underdog" (as opposed to ten or twenty years ago) is nutty.

My understanding isn't that he's upset about not being awarded it, but that
he wasn't even allowed to bid on it.

That's a big difference.

do note they never tried to get a long term contract up till now....

ULA was trying to get one last feed at the government $$$ trough.....

Hopefully musk is successful. The falcon could use launch boost escape for the high priced satellite. Or at 1/4 the cost of ULA expect to lose a payload but still be ahead money wise
