another phony "milestone"
I've been alternately dismayed and amused by NASA's seeming need to
claim everything they do is somehow a first, or historic, or a milestone. Today's ISS on-orbit status contains the following: "Today, continuous manned occupancy of the ISS reaches 1000 days. What a milestone in human frontiers exploration history!" Sure. They've pulled within 2641 days of the longest continuous occupancy achieved on Mir. Thanks for the 7+ year heads-up on a potential new record! |

Just like 100 days in office for a President or 100 episodes of a television show. They'll get to the 3,641ish days record of Mir. -- Alan Erskine alanerskine(at)optusnet.com.au Is Lewis Moran the type of father figure John Howard wants for Australian children? |

Yeah, this is a running joke of which NASA seems to be totally unaware or totally unconcerned. It would be interesting to find a former NASA PAO who could commit truth without fear of retaliation and ask if the first/historic/milestone stuff is explicit policy, or just in the air they breathe. |
