newbie question
Getting the right scope can make or break the hobby. Accessories are a must
have, but you'll be forever saving up for that next toy (trust me, three years of accumulating kit and I'm still wanting more to get to the setup that I want!) That said, all the toys in the world won't help you see more if the scope isn't up to the job. The biggest apeture on the most stable mount is what you should be looking for. Although one of your requirements is portability, big mirrors tend to weight a lot. I'm not familier with the SkyWatcher scopes, so I don't know if they're any good. 6" does sound like quite a nice sized scope that will serve you well for a while. Since your thinking about doing some photography, you'll need to check that the scope is mounted Equatorially. Alt-Az mounts mean that you can't take long enough exposures. I say that you're looking in about the right area for scopes (6-8 inch) it really depends on what scopes you've got the choice of and which you feel that you'd use more - remember bigger is heavy'er and less luggable. Hope this helps a little. Regards Colin Dawson www.cjdawson.com |

building EM detectors. In his spacetime we have the one in Chile, and these in New Mexico. there will never be spacetime when EM radiation is coming so far away that it does not hit earth. Bert |
