Question: Kuiper Belt
Hei41056 wrote: Can you tell me how many miles from earth the Kuiper Belt is I need the information for a science fiction short I'm writing concerning an alien space craft that is hiding there? Thanks in abvance for you answer. Googling "Kuiper Belt" gives 50,000 hits. The first site listed is Jewitt's page: http://www.ifa.hawaii.edu/faculty/jewitt/kb.html David Jewitt is credited with discovering the first KBO (unless you regard Pluto as the first KBO discovered) He gives 30 to 50 AU as their distance from the sun. There's about 93 million miles in an AU (Earth is one AU from the sun). So the KBO's are from 2.8 to 4.7 * 10^9 miles from the sun. And about 2.7 to 4.6 * 10^9 miles from the earth. -- Hop David http://clowder.net/hop/index.html |
