Default wrong time given?

Why was it said the lunar eclipse will begin at 8:06pm
when in fact it began at about 7:10pm in NYC?
Its 9:56pm and its about to end.
but they said it will last 25minutes.
what gives?

The "total phase" was about 25 minutes, from ~8:06 to ~8:31.
The "partial" (including total) was about 210 minutes, from ~6:35 to ~10:05.
The entire eclipse "event" was about 367 minutes, from ~5:15 to ~11:22.

Are you sure about your "7:10" time? The umbra shadow was about half across the
Moon at that time. In the Greater Cincinnati Area, I recorded 6:10 for the
first noticeable dimming on the left side of the moon. We had some wispy (upper
atmosphere) clouds at the beginning which made sort of a glow around the moon,
and there was a "bite" out of the glow on the left side.

During the total phase, there was still some pale light on the bottom edge of
the moon because the moon was barely inside the umbra shadow, and indirect
light bending through the earth's atmosphere was more noticable there. From
bottom to top, the color difference was from pale white to a shadowy pale
peach. At 8:20, mid-eclipse, one observer here noted that the so-called "man in
the moon" was not apparent.

Here are the "official" event times:
Lunar eclipse on 8 Nov 2003
(Eastern Standard Time Zone)
Magnitude: 1.02
04:39pm New York Moon rise
05:15pm Penumbra dimming begins
05:25pm Cincinnati Moon rise
06:35pm Partial (umbra) phase begins
08:06pm Total (umbra) phase begins
08:20pm Time of maximum (mid) eclipse
08:31pm Total (umbra) phase ends
10:05pm Partial (umbra) phase ends
11:22pm Penumbra dimming ends

Clear Skies! --Richard
