Petroleum and coal like products discovered to be extremely common throughout universe
Petroleum and coal like products discovered to be extremely common
throughout universe -------------------------------- http://www.gizmag.com/organic-stardu...covered/20310/ This recent discovery has turned the world of astronomy upside down. Stars produce extreme amounts of petrochemicals in mere weeks and the whole of the universe is filled with the stuff. It went on for so long undiscovered because the chemical signature in the infrared was completely misunderstood. What does this mean for planetary formation and planets like earth and its supply of coal and oil? Most probably its origin was extra terrestrial and not the age old theory that it originates with old plant material. All planets would have been seeded with vast reserves of complex organic chemicals at the time of their formation and subsequent bombardment from asteroids and comets. Planets like the Earth churn the stuff in the mantle and spit it out wherever it can. If the spin of the earth is taken into account, then all these organics would end up more readily seeping out near the equator right across the planet. Basically, stick a hole 'anywhere' on the equator and it is likely to strike oil unless you were very unlucky. Moreover, the wells will re-fill with time as the well is drained because Earths spin forces out the fluid chemicals to the outside while water tries to seep in and replace the vacant cavities in soil. Its more that likely that billions of tons of inexhaustible supply exists underneath the planet. The hot mantle will pressurize and send the oil up anywhere on the globe. The same may apply to Mars and moon. Its likely that Mars will have huge oil reserves and so too will the Moon about a kilometer or so below the surface. Some planets like venus may have converted some of those reserves into CO2, but countless billions of tons may still be buried beneath the surface because there is no way to 'spend' these chemicals. |

I knew that carbon 12 could be common. Venus has no coal or oil. Water is common underground.on Mars. TreBert |

http://www.gizmag.com/organic-stardu...covered/20310/ Duh! Researchers at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) claim to have solved the mystery of "Unidentified Infrared Emission features" that have been detected in stars, interstellar space, and galaxies. For over two decades, the most commonly accepted theory regarding this phenomenon was that these signatures come from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) molecules - simple organic molecules made of carbon and hydrogen atoms. Now HKU researchers say the substances generating these signatures are actually complex organic compounds that are made naturally by stars and ejected into interstellar space. |
