Perhaps that is just a bit hyperbolic, but I was truly shocked and dismayed to
encounter this news article:

America may lose one of its very few voices speaking up for science.

Of course, if he is not completely exonerated of all allegations, this is
unavoidable, but even if he were, this will likely end his career.

It looks like a classic "he-said/she-said" situation to me... and no matter the truth, or the outcome of any investigation, the stigma alone can be devastating to his career. Too bad, I think that the scientific community was better with him than it will be without him.
