The Great Space Race
Is there a rich person out there who wants to sponsor a prize of a
million dollars for the first private or public company or organization to send a probe to the moon, to photograph the American Flag in honor of the 40th anniversary of the moon landing? Its ok, if it crashes on arrival as long as it sends good clear images back of the landing site and the flag. I mean what a great patriotic boost that would be, for America. And for the world. |

Here is one way you could do it. With some sort of Helium balloon and bottle rocket. If you were mechanically inclined. http://www.newscientist.com/blog/tec...-on-cheap.html |

They claim they might be able to do it for about $1,800 If someone was willing to spend 10 grand, to maybe get that million dollar prize, you know wear a T shirt, do some publicity after the fact, thats worth a cool million to some sponsor. Remember they only pay off if you get there and send back the photos. For 20 grand you could land a small rover. A solar powered crawler of some sort. You know, a light weight tnker toy that operates on solar, and has no weight to it, so even if it crashes so what.It won't break. A small digital camera and some sort of technology to send a signal back. And if not a student effort, then maybe some company looking for a little publicity. You know a small light weight composite rocket, lifted to space by helium balloon. |
