perhaps government knows something but the public hasnt been told?
this is getting really fast tracked. odd in such a tough economic
time.

unless someone is attempting to justify SLS?

Anyone care to bet on how small the 'asteroid' they move will be?

Everyone ready for Bobbert to start screaming about how the sky is
falling because it could fall on us and destroy NYC?

Also, it looks like this program got a relatively small amount of
funding to start with ($100 million doesn't seem like much for a NASA
program). I wouldn't be surprised if all of that money is spent without
flying any hardware.

I was expecting him to warn how the asteroid would fall out
of control, smashing into a launch of a refurbished space shuttle,
sending *that* crashing uncontrollably into the White House, both
destroying all hope of space flight for generations to come and
putting thousands of people out of work while they have to rebuild
every space vehicle ever.

Not really. It will be a nice object to study assuming it larger
kin have a similar chemical composition. One needs to examine
the 'ore' of a mine to make sure it isn't "country rock."

it's a process if it leads to something.............Trig

Of course. But Bobbert will be back about 6 months from now squealing
about, "Remember how everyone laughed at me when I proposed moving an
asteroid?"

He'll conveniently forget all the details, like his proposed size...

Of course, and I'll bet that all this turns out to be is some kind of
feasiblity study, to see if it's possible to mount a mssion of this type.
And if it comes back as "not practical", then the Bobbert will scream that
NASA is "in the way" of the mission, even if they decide it's impractical.
