Hope vs pure misery
The 24 hour system and the Lat/Long system was never based on the Earth's rotation no matter how often the error is repeated.
The average 24 hour day sits within the 1461 day calendar framework which in itself is a property of the inviolate proportion between rotations and 4 orbital circuits to the nearest rotation. The line of inquiry is demonstrating how an external reference was used to determine the Earth's orbital position in space and how many times the planet turns in order to bring it back to that position in space. This should be a joyous endeavor as it is ancient and as valid today as it was thousands of years ago when the observation that a stars skips an appearance by a day (rotation) after 4 cycles of 365 days (rotations). There is no point railing against people who cannot give the purpose of a leap day rotation a moment's thought, the idea is to focus on how the timekeeping system merges with planetary dynamics at the juncture where the Earth closes out 4 orbital circuits. Again, timekeeping was never based on the rotation of the Earth in isolation and for those who believe it does are merely being silly, disruptive and wishful thinking. It is as much a question of pride as it is intelligence - when I see the appalling belief that the Earth is into the next full rotation in 23 hours 56 minutes 04 seconds and therefore the awful, awful notion of 366 1/4 rotations per orbital circuit it diminishes what it means to be human. " During one orbit around the Sun, Earth rotates about its own axis 366.26 times" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth That 'solar vs sidereal' fiction is pure misery along with the leap second notion tied directly to the Earth's rotation. |

After all, since the Earth rotated in 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4 seconds, trying to base Standard Time on that would indeed collapse into chaos. John Savard |

Hope vs pure misery
The presence of the 'solar vs sidereal' fiction in itself is enough to indicate a crisis and a necessary inquiry however the bulk of future endeavors will be putting in place the proper framework which distinguishes timekeeping from cyclical dynamics and its evolution through the many centuries.
People are entitled to the ideological misery that our planet is into its next full rotation in 23 hours 56 minutes and its twin horror of 366 1/4 rotations per orbital circuit but not when they are in contact with students not putting it into wider circulation such as Wikipedia - "During one orbit around the Sun, Earth rotates about its own axis 366.26 times " Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth It certainly constitutes the most amazing period in human history where astronomy and terrestrial sciences are involved including being among a group of people who simply can't accept that within 4 orbital circuits the Earth turns 1461 times insofar as we gauge the observations using daily rotations which puts the proportion at 365 1/4 rotations per orbital circuit even though that inviolate proportion isn't really used for practical purposes. |
