SpaceX using new Dragon capsules for all of their ISS cargo missions.
It's still being reported that SpaceX is using new Dragon capsules for all of their ISS cargo missions. SpaceX set October 7 for Dragon?s opening CRS mission to the ISS http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2012/...agons-opening- crs-mission-iss/ From above: SpaceX are using brand new Dragon?s for each of their CRS missions, per agreement with NASA, although the company has previously noted each returning CRS Dragon may be refurbished for non-NASA missions. I swear that we've discussed this before and someone said NASA is not requiring new capsules for every cargo flight. But this article seems to indicate at least that NASA has agreed to new capsules on every flight. Jeff -- "the perennial claim that hypersonic airbreathing propulsion would magically make space launch cheaper is nonsense -- LOX is much cheaper than advanced airbreathing engines, and so are the tanks to put it in and the extra thrust to carry it." - Henry Spencer |

Hmmm, now if only you could order those Dragons in Gold Leaf.... ;-) Dave |

Jeff I thought that NASA did prefer new capsules every flight. Bob Clark |

It will also build up for SpaceX a fleet of "flight-qualified" capsules. That may be why the company does not insist on testing its refurbishment skills in this first group of missions.

I think the working assumption is that NASA will relax that requirement after they've seen a few successful flights of Dragon. Brian |
